There's nothing new in the Sense 2's watch's screen tech, but it can be put into an "always on" mode that keeps it lit all day, rather than just timing out after a few seconds. While the latter may sound more techy, a classic button is much less frustrating to use. The Fitbit Sense 2 also gains a physical button on the side, whereas the original had a touch sensitive area. This enables the watch's ECG feature and is what separates a Sense 2 from the cheaper Versa 4. When the Sense 2 catches the light you can see a sort-of metallic border around the screen.
The top part is curved glass, the sides are aluminum and the underside is mostly plastic. Fitbit was clearly out to make a square shape look friendly with this design - and it really works. It's much squarer than a Pixel Watch and more rounded than an Apple Watch. Maybe that's for the best, because it's distinct from all of its rivals, however, it may be a disappointment to original Sense owners who were hoping for something new. While any of these Fitbits could be used without Premium, a lot of the insights and longer-term guidance on features like stress require it.The Fitbit Sense 2 looks similar to the original Sense. Many of Fitbit's extended fitness features remain part of a Premium subscription, which hasn't changed. These Fitbits still work with both iOS and Android, which is another reason for their existence: the Pixel Watch, which still remains a mystery as far as price and features, looks to be Android-only.
A few new Google features are coming aboard the new Fitbit watches as well: Google Wallet and turn-by-turn Google Maps are expected as updates in the fall, while Fitbit Pay will remain onboard as another contactless payment option.Īt $300, the Sense 2 costs more than the $99 Fitbit Inspire 3 or the also-new $230 Versa 4, which looks to have most of the Sense 2's features minus that EDA stress sensor and electrocardiogram measurement. A physical button's been added, which also appears on the new Inspire 3 and Versa 4 models. The design looks streamlined but still has the same "squircle" look as before. Beyond the new sensor, the Sense 2 is thinner and lighter than the older Sense watch but works with previous Sense straps.
